Week One – Done
In a little bit of word induced craziness I decided to take part in NaNoWriMo this year. The last time I attempted it was way back in 2002. I believe I did about 15 days and gave up. I’m now one week in and I’m doing ok. My word target is fine but the plot is MESSY. I need to take some time to sort an outline or I will be writing the same scene for the next 20-odd days.
For the uninitiated NaNoWriMo (or the National Novel Writing Month) is thirty days and nights of writing. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. No editing or proofing. Just pure writing. I’m in the groove of writing 750 words a day (more on that tomorrow) at 750words.com, so I’m doing all my writing over there and basically doubling my daily word count. I’m writing 1666 per day which is a big increase from 750 words. I find that I work best if I can break the count into two writing sessions though. One in the morning, one at night. In a pinch I can slam out 1666 words in about 35 – 40 minutes. It’s tough, but it can be done.
So week one was a little tough but I’m looking forward to the next three weeks and (hopefully) getting Book 1 in the trilogy done!
