Customising {insert gift here} – nieces do not read on!

This year we decided to get the nieces some walkie talkies. Unfortunately the only reasonable priced walkie talkies that we could find were very boyish looking so I busted out the craft supplies and customised them. I think they’ll do the trick although I must say it was really difficult coming up with ways of decorating them as they’re an odd shape, have lots of curves and have various bits and pieces (like the morse code chart) that I thought I’d better leave alone. I hope they like them!

I used: a hot glue gun and various gem-looking shapes that Mum had, Love Elsie! rub-ons, Heidi Swap felt rub-ons, Basic Grey Wholly Cow rub-ons, We R Memory Keepers Sprinkles letters, Making Memories Scrapbook Stitches, some beaded wire, little insect charms, polaroid pics of each of the girls (so they could tell the walkie talkies apart), Ki Memories Hip Chip pieces (that I used as photo frames) and some diamante stickers.

All three walkie talkies in a row. I tried to keep the decoration basically the same with a few identifying features.

Up close.

The antenna detail. I used beaded wire wrapped around the antenna to make it look a bit more girly. Each walkie talkie has a small picture charm of each girl so no fights start over whose belongs to whom.
